As part of the Ljubljana Pride 2025 festival, two rising stars of contemporary pop on the brink of global recognition will perform in Šiška – the delicate Australian singer-songwriter Mallrat and the homegrown storm of raw energy, July Jones.
FOR FANS OF: The Japanese House, Girl in Red, Charli XCX …
Grace Shaw, better known as Mallrat, is currently one of the most promising young pop artists in the world. She quickly rose to fame in Australia and became a regular presence on the country’s renowned Triple J Hottest 100 chart. Even with her debut EP in 2016, she caught international attention – NME even ranked the title track “Uninvited” among the 100 best songs of the past decade.
Mallrat’s full-length debut Butterfly Blues (2022) lived up to high expectations with its heartfelt approach and seamless blend of folk, hip-hop, delicate vocals, and minimalist beats, propelling her into the stratosphere of contemporary pop. Riding the wave of praise from media outlets such as Pitchfork, NPR, and Stereogum, she performed at prestigious festivals like Reading and Leeds and Austin City Limits, collaborated with Azealia Banks, The Chainsmokers, and others, and recorded the official song of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup with Benee.
After a brief hiatus due to the tragic passing of her younger sister, Mallrat returns this year with her highly anticipated second album, Light Hit My Face Like a Straight Right, performing in our region for the first time as well. Given her meteoric rise, by the time she returns, she’ll likely be playing in arenas, so don’t miss one of the last chances for an intimate concert with a future pop star!
Flying the local flag will be July Jones, a Slovenian-born artist who found success after moving to the UK. A versatile musician who has even written songs for one of the most popular groups of all time, K-pop giants BTS, she first captivated British audiences with her untamed energy, modern pop sound, strong messaging, and clear stance on topics such as queer culture and mental health. She introduced herself to a wider Slovenian audience through her performance at the EMA selection for Eurovision 2022, and this year, she will once again compete for the honour of representing Slovenia at Eurovision 2025. Regardless of the outcome, we can look forward to her unforgettable performance in Šiška this June.
