Ljubljana Street Art Festival (#LJSAF) is the first and only street art festival in Slovenia, connecting the street art, art and academic scene since 2019 and promoting one of the most important contemporary art movements of the 21st century in a unique way. It encourages visitors to actively read the streets, while at the same time supporting the young, as yet unestablished generations of street artists and taking care of the bright future of the local street art environment.
This year, the festival hopes to shine a light on sustainability in relation to street art, focusing on how social, cultural, economic and environmental sustainability are fostered by the intersections between researchers, designers and supporters of street art. The festival events will also shine a light on the practices, means and various forms with which street artists address and question sustainability and its relations with the communities in which they arise. New murals will emerge on the city walls from the brushes of local and foreign artists. The Chilean artist Julian Herreros Rivera will present an interdisciplinary project in Rimska Cesta Street, while in September, the Italian muralist Cibo will work around Kino Šiška. The scientific symposium will be opened by a lecture by Peter Bengtsen, author of Street Art and the Environment (2018), followed by contributions from researchers and protagonists of street art. We will once again offer the opportunity to participate in various creative workshops for all ages and guided walks around the city. The festival will also feature music performances by Samsara, Raketa, nastynancy, selgor, Julian Semler, Katja Šulc, Irena Tomažin and others.
