After a sold-out performance in the last gasps of the pre-corona era in March 2020, Lola Marsh, the indie pop band with a recognisable, charming sound, returns to our Katedrala Hall. The band, which has already packed both our small and large hall several times, will present its fresh third record, with which it confidently strides onto the dance floor.
Singer Yael Shoshana Cohen and multi-instrumentalist Gil Landau, the artistic duo at the core of Lola Marsh, worked on Shot Shot Cherry, released in October, during the strictest pandemic measures in their native Israel. In doing so, they unwittingly captured the spirit of their beginnings, when they created music in their room, and explored different vibes when writing the songs – including the energetic aesthetics of club dance floors, reflected in the throbbing rhythms of undeniable bangers such as the title track. Despite the new directions, however, Lola Marsh still retains the characteristics that have made her loved by millions around the world – the seductively mysterious vocals, the chemistry between the band’s protagonists and the deeply likable sound of modern indie pop.
Lola Marsh was formed after Landau’s birthday party in 2011, where the birthday boy and Cohen sang the famous “Jolene” together. Their EP debut of light, catchy melodies You’re Mine racked up plays on Spotify and other streaming platforms like lightning, with the duo cementing their reputation as a sensation a year later with the critically acclaimed full-length Remember Roses. The record established them as authors of accomplished pop compositions and took them on extensive tours, to the world’s biggest festivals and even to Hollywood (Criminal Mind, Better Call Saul). The successor Someday Tomorrow Maybe continued with the sweeping retro sound and brought the band back to Šiška. As on previous visits, a full hall awaited them and showed the special bond between the band and the Slovenian audience. THeir return in March can’t come soon enough.
