FOR FANS OF: Soap&Skin, CocoRosie, Adrianne Lenker …
Italian Marta Del Grandi journeyed from the fashionable streets of Milan to the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu, with the path helping shape her cosmopolitan musical expression. Del Grandi was originally a jazz singer, but her evolution led her into a unique, uncharted territory characterised by brilliant genre-splicing. An eclectic performer who honed her skills at the prestigious Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan, she draws on a wide range of musical inspirations, from the ethereal tones of the US West Coast to explorative, exotic melodies, which she internalizes with chameleon-like ease and skill.
On her new album Selva, Del Grandi ventures deeper into the shimmering, delicate sonic tapestry first glimpsed on her debut masterpiece Until We Fossilize. Selva combines Mediterranean warmth with the allure of the Northern Lights, with echoes of Lynchian dreaminess and Morriconeian drama reinforced by stunning synthetic landscapes and vibrant woodwind and brass sections. With tracks that narrate tales of love, friendship, obsessions, and even musings on death, Selva is the culmination of Del Grandi’s experiences and reflections, penned largely during her time on the road and in Berlin.
As part of the evening, local musician, poet and singer-songwriter Ita Kora will present her first EP release. According to her, the Ikatarla EP was created “as the fruit of a journey through the shadows of the unconscious, stretching across the sea of potential to find a way to the light”. The author’s musical exploration is inspired by ambient film music, carrying her far to the East, enhanced by tribal rhythms and exotic chants. Additional musical reserves are peeking out from behind Kora’s ears in preparation for the Kino Šiška concert as well.
