In October, we’re in for an evening of promising young trios from various parts of Europe – indie pop Belgians Noa Lee, brazey, the new project of Austrian Ines Kolleritsch, who won us over warming up for Alice Phoebe Lou, and the talented, unusual local trio Birds of Unknown. They share an unencumbered approach to genre restrictions and an extraordinary sense for creating dreamy pop tunes and intimate concert atmospheres.
FOR FANS OF: MENT Ljubljana, Freekind., Alice Phoebe Lou …
Noa Lee is a Belgian indie-pop band led by songwriter/singer/pianist Nina Kortekaas. With their playful music, consisting of dreamy melodies, original beats and harmonies with a wild atmospheric edge, the bend has been featured on respected national outlets such as Studio Brussel and Radio 1, as well as performed at famed venues such as Ancienne Belgique. During Covid times, their debut EP and accompanying live session provided much needed solace, and they’ve since been working on new material.
Šiška has gotten to know Ines Kolleritsch a few times already – first on her own, supporting Alice Phoebe Lou with her ode to the art of female singer-songwriters, and one pandemic later as half of Gazelle & The Bear, another excellent Austrian band intertwining jazz, hip-hop, and pop. This time, we’ll meet yet another side of this trained jazz musician. As brazey, she makes engrossing vocal-led songs with delicate instrumental arrangements, coloured with a tinge of darkness in the manner of her compatriot Soap&Skin.
A Slovenian trio that tends to leave any limitations behind when it comes to transcending genres, Birds of Unknown explore music through their own unique expression, built from the knowledge they’ve accumulated during their studies, collaborations, and performances. The seldom-seen lineup of vocals, saxophone and guitar has local critics raving and has flown to Prague to support Alfa Mist, and their 2022 debut album Gently Sailing was shortlisted for Album of the Year at radio Terminal.
