Experience the unique fusion of Irish and Slovenian traditional music with Noreia and Tola Custy!
Irish traditional music has lately become one of the Ireland’s most important export products in the world. In spite of the great value changes in modern society, the Irish music has managed to somehow stay relevant more then ever. Credit for that goes to many amazing musicians and musical ensembles that managed to popularise the old tunes and bring it closer to young people with every new generation. In Slovenia, folk music is experiencing a similar revival, especially in recent years.
Noreia wants to present a new project, discovering and revealing the important similarities in traditions of Ireland and Slovenia. Folk music has always been a living entity, changing through time and borrowing from different cultures. With analysing the musical structures and specifics it becomes clearly evident that the different nations did not only trade in goods to one another, but also influenced one another in its cultural aspects. The project aims to gain a deeper understanding of those similarities and differences of a specific nation and present it to the audience in the form of a live concert and a cd release later on!
Noreia is a musical ensemble from Slovenia, that plays traditional Irish, Scottish and Breton tunes – not always the traditional way! In last 3 years Noreia had played more than 200 shows in their homeland and abroad. Besides playing in pubs, the group is recently also conquering festival stages. They have toured Ireland, Croatia and Italy, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Austria, Spain and Germany! In January 2017, the band released their second album Moments To Treasure, which contains traditional tunes and songs in their own arrangement, and also 2 of their own compositions. The biggest step was done in the summer of 2017, when the band was chosen to play one of the largest festivals of Celtic music, Festival de Ortigueira (Galicia, Spain) and performed in front of a 30.000 crowd as the opening act of the festival. They have musically cooperated with names such as Donal Lunny, Padraig Rynne, Marino Kranjac, Tola Custy, Diarmaid and Donncha Moynihan, Janez Dovč, Davog Rynne and many others!
