Audacious, provocative, speaking her mind – this year’s Ljubljana Pride Parade Festival opening will undoubtedly be unforgettable thanks to an exclusive performance by lascivious electroclash star Peaches!
Canadian XL Recordings protégé Merrill Beth Nisker aka Peaches is regarded as one of the most bold contemporary artists, whose unique, unbridled music and fashion style and discussion of gender identity issues make her a role model not just for younger generations, but for numerous established musicians from all over as well. She has collaborated with artists such as Christina Aguilera, M.I.A., Kim Gordon, Joan Jett, Queens of the Stone Age, Nine Inch Nails, Simian Mobile Disco, Major Lazer, Feist, Iggy Pop, Beth Ditto, Tiga, R.E.M. and a whole bunch of others, acted in a film by John Malkovich, loaned out her music to hit TV shows such as South Park, Ugly Betty, The L Word and Orphan Black, and kept shocking the public throughout her career as a proponent of transgenderism, recreational drug use, promiscuity, obscenity and hyper-sexualised liberal views.
Her debut album as Peaches, the 2000 release The Teaches of Peaches, instantly became a feminist classic, with Peaches affirming her reputation as a wild, direct musician through sexually charged performances, a punk attitude to fashion, and energetic electroclash music that makes dancing the night away simple. It’s hard to imagine a more spectacular introduction to this year’s Pride Parade Festival!
The festivities will be launched by local explorers of the dark depths of techno, experimental music and other electronic derivatives, Warrego Valles. According to many, the release concert for their excellent debut album Botox in March outshone even the main star of the evening, Laurel Halo. This time around, they’ll serve up an undoubtedly delectable DJ set.
