Perturbator, the lord of dark synthwave, whose wild electronic rhythms and retro aesthetics have garnered him tens of millions of streams and performances at famed festivals such as Sziget, Rock im Park and Roadburn, is coming for his exclusive regional debut! We’ll warm up with none other than The Algorithm, the master of combining metal riffs and electronic beats, and the recipient of a Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award.
Frenchman James Kent aka Perturbator is regarded as one of the biggest names in synthwave, a genre fuelled by the sounds and aesthetics of the 1980s and the work of auteurs such as John Carpenter and Vangelis. The genre has flourished in the past decade, in part also thanks to the exceptional popularity of Kavinsky’s soundtrack for the acclaimed film Drive, with the lighter, more romantic sound of the genre’s beginnings gradually also morphing into a wilder, darker, but no less exciting version.
One of the main protagonists of this shift is none other than Perturbator with his four studio albums, bunch of Eps, gamer culture influences and spectacular shows charged with energy. Wishing to distance himself from the clichés of the genre he’s helped establish, the musicians recent releases venture into dark electro and industrial, yielding to bold exploratory impulses on his upcoming fifth album as well. He is definitely one of the biggest names of one of the freshest contemporary genres, whose exclusive first concert in our region is not to be missed.
We’ll start the dance with The Algorithm, led by Rémi Gallego.The French duo craftily blends contemporary metal sounds, from djent to mathcore, with various electronic music sub-genres – synthwave, chiptune, breakcore and more. Their overwhelming assault on the senses has ravaged famed festivals such as the British Download and the Czech Brutal Assault, and the band has also ventured on tours with acts such as Enter Shikari, The Qemists and TesseracT. In 2013, The Algorithm also received the esteemed Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award for Best Underground Act, and their fourth album Compiler Optimization Techniques was released last year.
