Musicology Barcaffe Sessions Slovenija is very happy to announce the arrival of Raul Midón, the musician, lyricist and guitarist whose albums Bad Ass and Blind and If You Really Want have been nominated for the prestigious Grammy Award in 2017 and 2018, and whom the New York Times described as “a one-man band who turns a guitar into an orchestra and his voice into a chorus”.
American singer-songwriter Raul Midón began his career as a studio musician. He’s collaborated with numerous established artists, including Shakira, Julio Iglesias and Jose Felician. He began his solo career in 2005 with the release of his debut State of Mind, which showcases his eclectic approach; his music merges elements of various genres, from jazz, soul, R&B and flamenco to Argentinian folk music.
On his latest album If You Really Want, which got him his second Grammy nomination, he collaborated with the acclaimed Danish Metropole Orkest orchestra, also a Grammy Award winner. Last spring he also performed on the popular Tiny Desk Concerts series, where they described him as a musician who operates in the world of sound with all his senses: “Blind since birth, Midón’s interpretation of his surroundings is borderless. He sings with the passion of the best classic soul singers, and his instrumental chops stand alongside the most accomplished jazz musicians.”
