In cooperation with Kino Šiška and the SolvdMag webzine and organisation for the strengthening of underground Balkan electronic music, the Velenje Cogo association for promoting electronic music culture has organised a screening of the Raving Iran documentary film and a roundtable discussion on the topic of the film.
The film by German director Susanne Regine Meures follows two young Iranian deejays (Blade&Beard – Anoosh Raki and Arash Shadram), whose desire for expressing themselves and creating electronic music collides with the lack of understanding and uncompromising attitude of the Iranian moral, religious and political restrictions. Due to the strictness of the regime and the police control, the two organise Burning-Man-inspired parties in the middle of the desert, a thousand kilometres from Tehran. Their persistence and fearlessness leads to an invitation to perform at the Street Parade in Zürich, where they still live and make music today.
In 2016, Raving Iran was screened at major film festivals all over the world, including Mexico, Lucerne, Reykjavik, Stockholm and Amsterdam.
The film will be followed by a roundtable discussion on the topic of the film, featuring the following guests: piercing Slovenian musician, blogger and columnist N’toko, Iranian rapper Naji, exiled due to the harsh criticism of the Iranian government in his lyrics and currently living in Ljubljana as an asylum seeker, and the leading copywriter and public relations manager for Slovenian and foreign electronic music clubs and festivals, Gregor Zalokar.
Directed by: Susanne Regina Meures.
The film will be screened in the Persian language with Slovenian subtitles.
Organisation: Cogo, SolvdMag and Kino Šiška.
