Samo Vidic: Colours and Shapes

Re_humanisation II

concert

From August 9 to 11, 2022, Kino Šiška will host the second performance of the Re_humanisation concert series this year. Re_humanisation is a concert series that features new musical, multimedia, music-and-stage works by young Slovenian artists. The series is based on a specific production practice, where an ensemble of established musicians performs the works of unestablished younger authors, whereby the final artistic form is (co)shaped through the process of collaborative work.

The author in residence will be Samo Vidic, with the resident ensemble including: Nejc Grm (accordion), Gašper Livk (contrabass), Tilen Lebar (saxophone), Urška Rihtaršič (harp), Tilen Lebar (saxophone) and Petra Vidmar (percussion). They will be mentored by Dré A. Hočevar.

The purpose of the cycle is to promote advanced “media” based on music and sound, which as such have specific artistic, theoretical and also broader social potential.

Re_humanisation is a project by the .abeceda Institute and takes place in coproduction with Kino Šiška. The programme of the .abeceda Institute is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia.

August 9–11, 2022 – residence, Kino Šiška

Samo Vidic (2001) lives and works in the Netherlands as a student at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. In addition to studying composition with Mayke Nas and Peter Adriaansz, he also studies orchestral conducting with prof. Ivan Meylemans. He started his musical journey with the violin, and already showed an interest in musical arrangement in primary school. His path first led him to the theoretical department of the Conservatory of Music and Ballet in Ljubljana, where he worked in the class of prof. Črt Sojar Voglar and received the Škerjanec Award for his compositions. At the same time, he attended solo singing lessons with prof. Julieta Kubik de Habjanič. In 2020/2021, he was a student of the first year of composition at the Academy of Music of the University of Ljubljana, under the mentorship of professors Uroš Rojko and Vito Žuraj. Despite his young age, he has presented his works at festivals such as Kogoj Days, Slowind Spring, Festival of Contemporary Music .abeceda, Spring Festival in The Hague and Solo e da camera, as well as at other concert events such as Jeunesses Musicales Stage, A Small Terrace in the Midst of Ljubljana, Konstrukt den Haag and the International Marimba Competition in Belgium.

He sees participation in the Re_humanisation series as an opportunity to create a music programme that “lets us dream and, in a continuous flow of sounds and non-sounds, opens the way to experiencing a peaceful meditative environment, which I open with my music. I understand the project as the culmination of my work over the last few years, especially since the beginning of my studies in the Netherlands in Den Haag”.
