The Slovenian reception at Waves Vienna traditionally provides an introduction to both Slovenian artists and delegates. You will have the chance to meet representatives of the Slovenian music scene with an excellent Bevog beer in your hand, and afterwards grab some tasty snacks. The selected musicians at Waves this year are: the youthful indie rock artist Dora Tomori, the eclectic groovy trio Masaž, and KiKi, one of the most enchanting voices of the new wave of Slovenian folk and pop.

One of the most enchanting voices of the new wave of Slovenian folk and pop, KiKi is no doubt a project that speaks for itself. Her debut album KRiKi released in 2023 glimpses theatrically crafted stories, which often sound like hidden confessions coming directly from her soul, while KiKi voices out the secrets of domestic folklore and culture as well as her introspective musings.

As a representative of the younger Slovenian generation, Dora Tomori has developed her own way of combining indie rock and bedroom pop styles. Through her music, she explores her internal topography and surroundings, resulting in songs based on powerful lyrics and mellow atmospheres. On her debut album Where No Heartbreak Has Gone, released in the spring of 2023, she addressed themes that range from the influence of weather to the sting of heartbreak. It’s an exciting youthful exploration of intimate relationships that life brings at her age.

Always bursting with energy, Masaž is a young trio whose groovy dance rhythms invite the listener to new dimensions. In 2021, they won the 8th season of Špil liga, a yearly competition for high school musicians organized by Kino Šiška, and the following year they toured the Slovenian underground as representatives of Club Marathon, a yearly club tour organized by Radio Študent. In late 2023, they released their debut album 3d ritmi on which they revamped their signature pop sound with gentle electronica, sophisticated funk and glam elements.
