Lucrecia Dalt (CO)
The headliner of the SONICA concert is composer, musician and vocalist Lucrecia Dalt, who will perform her masterpiece ¡Ay!, one of the biggest surprises of the past year, which landed at number one on The Wire‘s AOTY list and among the top 20 albums of the year by The Guardian, Pitchfork, Crack Magazine, Bleep and others. The concept album ¡Ay! has a tropical nocturnal vibe and represents a kind of bolero sci-fi opera based on Latin American musical traditions like salsa, merengue and bolero. With her new album, Dalt has attracted new audiences, captivating many new fans who have never heard of her before. ¡Ay! is a timeless masterpiece that will seduce fans of names like Tom Waits, Ray Barretto, Angelo Badalamenti, Talk Talk, etc.
Ale Hop (PE)
An evening dedicated to original avant-garde expressions, the concert program also includes the performance of Peruvian artist, researcher, and experimental instrumentalist Ale Hop, who composes electronic and electroacoustic music by blending strains of noise, pop, avant-garde and ambient. She uses a complex repertoire of extended techniques for electric guitar and real-time sampling devices, creating a unique sonic vocabulary to craft performances of astonishing physical intensity, saturated by layers of distortion and stunning atmospheres.
rouge-ah (SI)
The electric harp luminary rouge-ah, one of the most prominent representatives of the younger generation of the local experimental music scene, will set the atmosphere. Her debut album bare (Kamizdat, 2018) was followed by numerous performances at regional and international festivals, and in recent months she has been active mainly on the Berlin music scene where she currently performs in Florentine Holzinger’s show Ophelia’s Got Talent, an extraordinary piece of performance art. At SONICA, she will present new material from her upcoming second album that will focus on the sonic exploration of dreams and their integration into the sonic fabric.
