Špil Liga is broadening its horizons! After being invited to Croatia in November, last year’s winners Špil Ligni are returning the favour and, in cooperation with the Croatian Superval festival, having the promising band TereT from Zagreb over for a visit, accompanied by another Špil Liga champion, BibliBan.
In May, our annual competition for student musicians Špil Liga and the Croatian festival of high school musicians Superval are again joining forces in order to introduce promising young musicians abroad. Last year, Superval hosted Slovenian multi-instrumentalists and 2023 Špil Liga winners Špil Ligni in Zagreb. Featuring unique musical ideas and a genre mix of hip hop, jazz and RnB, the seven-piece band, enhanced with a sampler for this special occasion, has now repaid its debt with an invitation for Zagreb’s Teret.
Founded in 2022, the five-piece TereT shapes its unique musical identity from the building blocks of indie, funk, hard rock and psychedelia. With a hard-working concert ethos throughout Croatia, they have solidified their reputation and, among other things, warmed up for Zabranjeno Pušenje. In January, the JeboTon label released their debut album Ulice, whose ten tracks record the band’s adventures so far and vividly depicts their development.
Špil Ligni and TereT will be joined by another group of student champions, the energetic punk trio BibliBan, who dominated Špil Liga in the 2021/22 season. Their hard-hitting sound of Motorhead-like directness, Butthole Surfers banter and grunge swagger has already rocked stages all over Slovenia and the wider region, including Hungary and Slovakia, and they also proved their eclectic virtues at the big concert on the 10th anniversary of Špil Liga.
