We’ll talk with comics artists Gašper Rus and Gašper Krajnc about their body of work, focusing in particular on their latest comic books, Naplavine and Zimske ptice, which are thematically linked by their reflections on the process of creating comics, as well as on the life and work of a comics artist. The conversation will be led by critic and publicist Eva Ule.
Naplavine (Stripburger/Forum Ljubljana, 2024) is a collection of short comics in which Gašper Rus, with sharp irony, honesty and humour, depicts events, mishaps and everyday predicaments, often inspired by autobiographical elements. The collection is rounded off with connecting strips in which his alter ego reflects on the struggles of life as a comics artist.
In Zimske ptice (VigeVageKnjige, 2024), the final part of his “bird” trilogy, Gašper Krajnc, through his protagonist, takes an uncompromising look at the position of the artist in society and at societal expectations of art. At the same time, he centres on the individual he is when he is not an artist – his relationship to himself, to others, and to everything that surrounds him.
