The Brand New Heavies are returning to Ljubljana with a new album!
Towards the end of October, legendary British acid jazz group The Brand New Heavies will return to Ljubljana with a new album, performing at Kino Šiška on 27 October as part of the Musicology Barcaffe Sessions series.
The story of the Brand New Heavies goes back to 1985, when drummer and keyboardist Jan Kincaid, guitarist Simon Bartholomew and bassist and keyboardist Andrew Levy, all classmates from the London suburb of Ealing, combined their love of 1970s funk. In the years that followed, the band was joined by a brass section, and the cherry on top was when they were joined by vocalist Jay Ella Ruth, which led to their self-titled debut album in 1990. They then signed to American record label Delicious Vinyl, which provided them with recognition on the American market as well. Ella Ruth was succeeded on the mic by N’dea Davenport, and they also re-recorded their debut for the American audience at the behest of the above-mentioned label. The rest, as they say, is history.
Over their 30-year career, they’ve dropped no fewer than 16 hits that have landed among the top 40 on global music charts and their albums have gone platinum, yet they remained true to their sound throughout, never yielding to contemporary commercial trends.
In addition to their new album TBNH, which they released in September 2019, they’ll also play all the legendary hits that have left their mark on the past three decades: “Dream on Dreamer”, “You’ve Got a Friend”, “Never Stop”, “Boogie”, “Day by Day”, “I Like It”…
Organization: Musicology Sessions Slovenija and Kino Šiška.
