The Slackers, legendary ska veterans from New York, are coming back! They last got the Slovenian audience dancing at the Punk Rock Holiday festival in 2023, and this time they will once again stop in Šiška with their infectious blend of ska, reggae, rock, and jazz.
Resilient ska veterans The Slackers have been gracing stages for over thirty years, and their lively ska sound, infused with a touch of New York grit, has captivated listeners worldwide. Despite their name, the band is anything but lazy, as they continuously tour, often returning to this region, while regularly releasing new albums. To date, they’ve released 15 albums, including the genre classic Redlight and the 2022 release Don’t Let The Sunlight Fool Ya, which received critical acclaim, with The Washington Post remarking that the band remain at the top of their game.
In addition to studio albums, The Slackers have also released numerous EPs, live albums, and singles – the latest, released last year, tackles the U.S. presidential elections with the band’s signature socially conscious themes set to upbeat ska rhythms.
As one of the most prominent bands of the third wave of American ska, The Slackers have left a lasting influence on numerous other artists and remain a driving force in the genre today. Their stage energy and masterful musicianship can easily charm even those hearing them for the first time. Both longtime fans and newcomers will have the chance to experience the band’s rich musical legacy live this June at Kino Ši-ska.
