In October, the Tinta Festival, the successor to Stripolisfest, will leave traces all over Ljubljana with a varied selection of comic events. Exhibitions, workshops, discussions, a comics fair, presentations of new releases and signings, an auction of original issues, live readings, film screenings, socializing and a whole heap of fun for all fans of comics!
The main part of the festival will take place from 10th to 14th October at various cultural venues around Ljubljana, with the rest of the month inked in with varied festival warm-up and cool-down events, and the ink spilling outside of Ljubljana as well.
The festival programme will present both current domestic comics and a broader look at the position and creative state of the ninth art in Slovenia. Slovenian comics have several causes for celebration this year: the first Slovenian comic, Zamorček Bu-ci-bu by Milko Bambič, was published 90 years ago, the Stripburger magazine has been coming out for a quarter of century, and comics artist Tomaž Lavrič, also the author of this year’s festival mascot Tinta the Dwarf, finally received the Prešeren Award.
In addition to numerous local comics artists, the festival will host English comics artist and activist Kate Evans, French speed-drawer and one of the most read online comics artists in the world Boulet, a legend of the Serbian underground comics scene Aleksandar Zograf, Hungarian zine festival Ukmukfukk, and Dutch artist Daan Brinkmann‘s team with the street robot printer Chalky.
You can find out more about the programme here, and follow the festival’s Facebook profile for the latest updates.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL | The Tinta Comics Festival is the successor to Stripolisfest, which took place in Ljubljana between 2013 and 2016, and which has now been renamed after four editions. The festival acts as a connecting platform that brings together local comics scene participants with the aim of popularizing comics creativity, presents the highlights and variety of contemporary Slovenian comics production, and provides a glimpse of the lively international comics scene and trends in the field of contemporary comics art by hosting acclaimed foreign comics artists. Tinta (“Ink”) leaves a visible trace, just like the various expressions of comics creativity.
