For the 11th consecutive year, the Tinta Comics Festival celebrates the diversity of contemporary comic creativity, featuring a wide array of guests and offering an exciting selection of events that will take place from 9 to 13 October at various venues around Ljubljana.
This year’s edition highlights the power of original female voices in the world of comics. Join us in welcoming three internationally recognized creators with distinct artistic styles, whose works are also available in Slovenian: the acclaimed Canadian-Serbian author Nina Bunjevac, one of Germany’s most recognizable comic artists Anna Haifisch, and the talented Belgian artist Noémie Marsily. In addition, seasoned French comic masters of international renown, the brilliant cartoonist Grégory Panaccione and the esteemed comic screenwriter Wilfrid Lupano, will also be in attendance. The Ukmukfukk zine festival and a colourful group of young Hungarian artists, known for playfully crossing the boundaries of various artistic practices, will also be featured.
This year, the festival is expanding its program with the international conference of the WOMCOM: Women Power in Comics project. The conference will explore the representation of women and the roles of female creators in the comics field, highlighting various artistic, community, and activist practices that foster creativity and solidarity within the regional and international comic scene.
We are also excited to introduce a new international residency program connecting Ljubljana with the French comics capital, Angoulême. In October, piercing French comic artist André Derainne will be creating in Ljubljana and will also present his work at the festival.
As always, Tinta appeals to comic enthusiasts of all ages with its rich array of events. In addition to comic exhibitions, which have always been the heart of the festival, this year’s program includes talks, lectures, and masterclasses by visiting artists, workshops, storytelling events for children, and, of course, social gatherings.
The festival will conclude with the traditional comics fair at Kino Šiška and the Zlatirepec Awards for the best Slovenian comics. For the first time, the international Sophie Castille Award for the best Slovenian comic book translations will also be presented.
Come explore the vast world of comics and celebrate the pinnacle of comic art with us!
