Tomaž Grom (SI) – Séamus O´Donnell (DE)

sonic art performance series

At Tuesday’s concert, Grom and O’Donnell will prepare a sonic collision, gradation and overflow of two interventions with an outcome that can’t be predicted. Actually, due to the potential possibilities of the derivatives, instruments and improvisational methods, it remains intentionally undefined.

Tomaž Grom is a double bass player and author who, in his own words, “seeks reasons for making music”, while O’Donnell is an improviser, radio artist, and organizer of events for collaborative projects in Berlin.

Program:

  1. Seamus O’Donnell: Ruins/City/Memory (2017)
  2. Tomaž Grom: Pizda, vsi neki špilajo, jaz sem pa umetnik
  3. Tomaž Grom and Seamus O’Donnell: Intervention with unknowable outcomes

Artists about their work:

After a healthy warm up in the days before the performance the two artists will apply their individual skills and experiences in the sonic fields to explore the moment and the space. The outcome of this is purposely left undefined in order to allow for the full spectrum of possibilities the two can explore. Because of the difficulties, misunderstandings, cross posting, different choices of musicians Tomaž will use conversation between Brane Zorman and Tomaž Grom as a base material for the piece, combined with electronic.”

Tomaž Grom understands music as a medium of communication rather than aesthetic pleasure. He wants to find reasons for making music. Uncompromisingly he prods at social norms. Music for him is a form of seeking, unanswered questions, flow of ideas, unpredictable situations. Composition is improvisation. Improvisations offers him space to lose himself, to make mistakes, to come up with intriguing solutions. In music, challenges invite thinking and open up new possibilities. He misses a deep and complex analysis.

Séamus O´Donnell’s (kNiFeLoOp) works as artist and organizer on different sound art projects. Solo or collaborative projects (for performance or installations) can include FM radio experiments with receivers and self built mini-transmitters; reel-to-reel tape machine loop or relay set ups; or a live set with any mix of manipulated field recordings, self made devices and other more traditional instruments, objects, voice and machines. As an organizer he co-founded Salon Bruit e.V. in 2002 that has facilitated many sound artists in Berlin over the years. Now spends most of his spare time with Colaboradio (co-founded in 2011), a part of Freie Radios Berlin, to promote outsider radio..
