Ljubljana-based synth pop band Torul, who boast many years of international experience, will present their new album End Less Dreams upon their return to Šiška – judging by early reviews, it is perhaps their most important work to date. They will be joined by promising local youngsters Pavlov, who combine elements of post-punk revival and new wave to create dark indie rock.
Released in February, End Less Dreams, Torul’s seventh album, was created during the suffocating pandemic period, which left its mark on both the story and musical content of the record. On the album, the founder of the band Torulsson takes hold of the microphone several times, providing the interpretation of the original pieces with even more immediacy, and some Slovenian lyrics sneak onto to the album this time as well. Among the many favourable reviews so far, Radio Terminal hailed the record as a masterful exercise in excellence, and Miroslav Akrapović described it as an outstanding addition to an already impressive discography.
Out of Torulsson’s solo beginnings more than 15 years ago, synth pop band Torul gradually grew into an internationally established trio that regularly performs abroad and is especially popular in Germany. The melodic blend of dark-tinged gothic atmosphere, rock energy and various electronic derivatives also convinced the legendary British band Mesh, which took Torul along on tour in 2013. Since then, the band has changed singers and played numerous clubs and festivals around Europe, including the famed Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig, Mera Luna and Amfi.
Among other things, Torul have celebrated the release of their previous album Hikikomori in Šiška and performed in our hybrid concert series. This time around, they’ll also play select material from their truly diverse discography in addition to the new songs. They’ll be supported by young locals Pavlov, who build their sound from metallic drums, piercing bass lines, synthesized chords, clothed in silken melancholy, and picturesquely abstract verses. Their debut album Predor, released in 2021, was named Album of the Week on Radio Terminal and took them to club stages and festivals around Slovenia.
