The fusion of Ethiopian popular music and high-voltage rock is consistently a concert highlight. After eight years, Ukandanz are returning to Ljubljana to present their album Kemekem, which cements their status as the only band in the world described as Ethiopian “crunch” – a mix of Éthiopiques, jazz, rock, and noise. This winning combination has once again found its voice with the iconic singer Asnake Gebreyes.

In a dozen years of touring and five albums, Ukandanz have earned high acclaim in the world of globalised music. The band has returned to the scene with a new EP that goes back to the roots of their music. The modern and electrifying cantor Asnaké Gebreyes leads the musicians as an exciting musical machine on a journey between Addis Ababa and Lyon.
The fuel of this modern trance machine remains rooted in the Ethiopian soul with two fundamental elements: the elastic voice of Gebreyes, one of the leading figures on the contemporary music scene in Addis Ababa, and the compositions of Damien Cluzel, who thrives in the experience of musical and cultural intersections. As for the band’s physical presence, their bodies revel in the energy of rock and the catharsis of improvisation (and vice versa). Ukandanz – a musical and dance explosion!
