Coinciding with the last month of artist Lin Gerkman’s residency at the Open Studio, the exhibition Sacred Waste Lot encourages new reflections on practices of personal art archiving and storage. The exhibition space acts as an extension of the studio, where the artist’s completed or still developing works will be on display. The layout will change with the pace of the exhibition, challenging conventional understandings of exhibition and archive spaces for artists, reflecting on the potential multi-functionality of the exhibition space.
Lin Gerkman (1995, Ljubljana) graduated in Industrial Design from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana, where he is finishing his Master’s degree. In addition to design, he works in the field of visual arts. His work explores meaning in found objects and everyday situations. He explores current events and the remnants of recent history that shape them. In doing so, he uses different types of found objects and archival materials, either using them as a starting point to create entirely new works or combining them into new composite wholes. He is interested in understanding the individual’s relationship to the home, the impact of social transitions and the relationship between the public and the private.
