The graduation show of the students of the 3rd year of the Department of Photography at the VIST Faculty of Applied Sciences, titled Behind the Facade, plays on the theme of “fakeness”, which in the context of photography can refer to the false representation of reality, manipulation of the truth, forgery and inauthenticity. The photographic works by the individual authors offer unique perspectives on the subject through the prism of their perception of (in)authenticity or (in)sincerity.
Some of the authors approach the topic in a reportage-documentary style and create images that highlight current social issues, the question of belonging, the influence of interpersonal communication and the uncertainty of human memory. By questioning identity, the belonging to different subcultures, the spread of rumours and disappearing memory, they draw attention to the blurring of the boundaries between the real and the unreal, which is increasingly evident nowadays.
Other projects emphasize (in)authenticity through creative original photography and touch on the subject from a psychological or introspective point of view. They are rooted in the interpretation of personal experiences and explore subjective (un)truths. From different perceptions of loneliness, solitude and its consequences, metaphorical reliance on things or concepts that co-shape our view of the world, to seemingly everyday situations in which people hide their true feelings, the authors question the complex mechanisms of false ideas and how they determine our perception of the world.

* The Department of Photography at the VIST Faculty of Applied Sciences implements the only study programme that comprehensively covers photography and the placement of photography in other visual media, and extends to the field of video as well. The study programme has been implemented since 2009. In a creative environment, students are guided by experienced and skilled professionals who, based on their experience, knowledge and beliefs, open the doors to the world after graduation. At the conclusion of their studies, the students are professionally skilled, mature authors of visual images and receive a title equivalent to BA (Hons) Photography.
