The zine reveals the literal interpretation of commonly used idioms. The author uses her own approach to depict these expressions on embroidered canvases, dominated by a humorous and literal visual image. In this way, she celebrates the playful nature of language, especially English, which is closest to her in terms of humor.
Špela Ambrož is a creator who works in the fields of graphics, graphic design, photography and ceramics. In recent years, she has collaborated with her father, a photographer and author, in various projects focused on creating photo books that represent the character of the city and the nature of Prlekija and its surroundings. In the summer of 2021, she launched the joint project OD OKA @od_oka with her colleague Kristina Pucko, which is focused on creating artful tableware for imaginative tablescapes. THE HOOP plate was selected for the project DESIGN DINING: Slovenian Tableware Design, for which they produced a limited series of plates for pop-up dinners and for an exhibition at the Vienna Design Week and the project office of the Center for Creativity in Maribor. The artist is currently studying for a master’s degree in graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana.
