Talya Ventura (2000) is a young nonbinary illustrator and comic artist from France who graduated from École Estienne in Paris. Their work is progressively defined by the development of their universe, which takes inspiration especially from manga, in particular from the dynamic compositions and the expressiveness of the emotions. Street fashion/art, children’s books and video games are also major references for the artist. They like to explore many techniques and mediums to express this colourful imagination, and continue this approach by experimenting with digital drawing in their new zine, developed during the two months they spent in Ljubljana.
“I Want to Be a Skateboy” starts from the artist’s experimental approach to transcribing their experience in Slovenia by sharing their intimate feelings, such as the quest for identity, in a light and abstract way. The zine can be seen as a way to preserve the time and thoughts felt here, as well as an artistic vision. The artist wanted to keep their memories of Ljubljana in the style of a nostalgic video game, taking a lot of their inspiration from the abundant graffiti in the city. Through absurd poetry, they combine the photos taken during the summer with digital illustrations, which bring us directly into their sweet and funny imagination.
