ZOUJ

+ Zevin

After last year’s successful residency and interactive performance, Zouj, a versatile German musician who is considered one of the most fascinating names in futuristic pop at the moment, is returning to Šiška. The talented artist will present his latest release, the Metal EP, released by the acclaimed City Slang Records, with his live band also featuring popular local musician Sahareya.

German multi-instrumentalist and producer Adam Abdelkader Lenox aka Zouj played bass in the hardcore band Lingua Nada, before following the example set by Björk and turning from rock to experimental electronica. With an eclectic range of influences and an imaginative, always entertaining web of emotional, life, technological and musical dualities, the daring artist has established himself as one of the most intriguing musicians right now, looking to the future in the ever-exciting field of hyperpop as he lays the foundations of the pop of tomorrow. His talent has been recognized by Adult Swim, brands such as Nike and Gucci, and last but not least by the renowned City Slang Records, for which Zouj prepared his latest release.

The EP Metal, which will also be released on vinyl by City Slang together with its acclaimed predecessor Tagat, thematically deals with the challenges of modernity, especially those instigated by the ubiquity of the internet, as well as with the ordinary hardships of life. On the record, which fluidly jumps between catchy rhythms, ominous undertones, flashes of nostalgic RnB and more, we also find a collaboration with the Ljubljana-based rapper, singer and dancer Sahareya, whom Zouj met at Kino Šiška last year – their interactive performance .MOV was created during our week-long Liveurope residency – and now she is a permanent member of his live act. We will be able to listen to the new material live in October.

The talented 18-year-old Zevin hails from Slovenia and is considered one of the most prominent hyperpop-adjacent acts in the region. In collaboration with the producer Dvided21, she plays with genres, unconventional sounds and vocals while shaping her cheeky vision of futuristic pop. An independent musician, she remains committed to DIY principles in her career, taking care of both music videos and stage scenery herself. She already introduced us to her catchy tracks and colourful aesthetics at this year’s MENT Festival, and now she’s returning in a supporting role.
