Open call for the submissions of mural proposals
Text of the open call
The Kino Šiška Centre for Urban Culture, in cooperation with the City of Ljubljana, is inviting artists in the field of fine and visual arts to design a new mural on the façade of the building at Trg mladinskih delovnih brigad 7 in Ljubljana. The project will replace the previous mural by the young Finnish artist Pallo Ollap, who painted the façade in 2014 as part of an international European project.
Murals, graffiti and other artistic interventions in the public space are regarded as an important part of the image of a contemporary city. Street art pieces co-shape an artistically plentiful scenography of the city, telling the story of its inhabitants and opening up different views of the variety of urban life. Especially in a time of oversaturation with intrusive advertising billboards and displays, street art facilitates independent creativity and the visibility of an innovative aesthetic, thereby placing itself in the very core of experiencing a city.
Subject of the open call
The author of the selected proposal will receive a net fee of 1000 EUR for painting the mural and will be compensated for material and technical implementation costs. In addition, the selected authors who live outside of the City of Ljubljana area will be compensated for travel costs and three weeks’ residence in Ljubljana. The topic of the mural is open-ended.
